John Godden – Founding Board Member and Technology Director

John Godden built his first R-2000 home almost 3 decades ago and has been educating and challenging builders to raise the bar on building performance ever since then.

He is a leading rater and consultant for R-2000, ENERGY STAR, EnerGuide and LEED for Homes programs. John also, co-designed ENERGY STAR for New Homes workshops for builders and city building official advisors in Ontario. He regularly delivers seminars on air-tightness, better building practices, and green sales and marketing.

John is a member of OHBA, HRAI and CaGBC, LEED Canada for Homes Technical Committee. He is the president of Clearsphere, Canadian Residential Service Network (CRESNET) and founder of the Sustainable Housing Foundation. He developed the Green Builder Challenge – a program that has engaged builders to increase the performance of their homes, (350 homes to date) with a target to reduce energy consumption by at least 50 % from the IECC standard.

Paul Duffy, Founding Board Member and Current President 

Paul Duffy,, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., is President of Paul Duffy and Associates Inc, a Consulting Engineering Company headquartered in Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Applied Science (1981) and Masters of Applied Science (1983) and specialized in Construction and Building Science. He is active with the Spray Foam Coalition (SFC) and the SFC Research Committee for the American Chemistry Council – Center for the Polyurethanes Industry and is a sitting member of several Standards Committees. He is a Past President of the Ontario Building Envelope Council (OBEC) and a foudning board member of  the Canadian Residential Energy Services Network (CRESNET).  Paul has more than 30 years experience years in the Consulting Engineering field, during which he, managed the R-2000 Program in Ontario for 4 years, did extensive work on Energy Star Certification of thousands of new homes, reviewed and managed the upgrading of hundreds of existing commercial buildings. He has been and continues to be an active contributor to Code changes both in Canada and the US.

Michael White, Vice President

Michael is a Certified Energy Evaluator and President of RGL Consultants. In this role Michael brings extensive experience to the company and quarterbacks the team by coordinating builders High Performance Housing planning. Michael is also the Energy Program Director and Lead Trainer for Nationwide Energy Advisors (NEA). In this capacity Michael trains new Advisors across the country to become Certified Energy Advisors.  Michael joined the Board in December 2015.

Moti Markizano, Treasurer

Moti is an independent energy evaluator working n the greater Toronto area. He joined the CRESNET Board in 2017.

John Bell, Board Member

John Bell is Vice-President of Greyter Water Systems which offers smart solutions that save money by reducing the water and waste water demands of commercial and residential buildings by up to 35%.

John has been actively involved in the water conservation and greywater recycling industry since 2009. John is also a Certified HERS Energy Evaluator. As a sustainable renovator and energy evaluator, Bell has worked in the construction industry for nearly a decade, project managing renovations and new builds. A former sports broadcaster, Bell has over a decade of television experience, which included hosting World’s Greenest Homes, which featured some of the most sustainable builds around the world (HGTV Canada/Daily Planet Green U.S.A). John is regularly sought out as a featured speaker at conferences and trade shows such as the North America Water Reuse Conference, Sustainability Applied, OCWA Technology Showcase and the Ontario Home Builders Association.  John joined the Board in December 2014.

Antony Zanini, Board Member

Antony is an Independent Energy Evaluator working in the Toronto region.  Antony is Chair of CRESNETs Quality Assurance Committee. He joined the CRESNET Board in 2015.

Paul Lowes, Board Member

Paul has over 25 years of experience in the downstream segment of the oil and energy industry with multinational oil companies. He is focused on advancing environmental policies through the use of cost-effective biodegradable and biomass products made with recycled and renewable technology that complies with international eco-friendly labels and programs. Paul has extensive experience in the infrastructure, marine and residential construction industries and has been involved in a number of major infrastructure projects, including the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and the New Champlain Bridge.

Paul has transitioned to the residential construction industry and works for Building Products of Canada, managing builders and architects. Paul joined the Board in 2018.

Gerald Van Decker, Board Member

Gerald Van Decker, P.Eng., M.A.Sc. serves as the Chief Executive Officer, President and a Director of RenewABILITY Energy Inc. Mr. Van Decker has worked for Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), where he was involved in project management and research and development activities in the field of Solar Heating Technologies. In July 2000, he left NRCan to start RenewABILITY Energy Inc.  which is a developer of cost effective energy saving solutions for institutional, commercial, industrial and residential customers around the world.  Gerald joined the CRESNET Board in 2018.

Michael Gilezan, Board Member

Michael joined the CRESNET Board in 2017. He works for Building Knowledge Canada in Cambridge Ontario.
