TRAINING & QUALITY ASSURANCE

CRESNET offers several accreditations and training options. Check back regularly for new training opportunities. CRESNET ensures quality assurance following RESNET standards and procedures.

CRESNET ACCREDITATION COURSES

CRESNET offers 3 Accreditation Courses.  The training is deigned to take you from first principles of air leakage through house inspections, recording, air tightness testing to the use of energy modelling software and reporting. The courses must be completed as follows:

Accredited Building Code Energy Modeller (BCEM) -This course broken down into 6-8 sessions done virtually or it can be 2 ½ day training course where lessons, examples and practice activities are provided. It demonstrates the REM/Rate software, how to use it and how it applies to providing the performance reports required to submit for permit for Code Compliance (projected rating).

There is a challenge quiz to complete this course to demonstrate your knowledge gained from taking this course.

Accredited Air Tightness Tester (ATT) Course -This is course 1 day course offered virtually or in person that discusses the onsite process using particular equipment to take readings of the air tightness of a home.

There is a challenge quiz to complete this course to demonstrate your knowledge gained from taking this course. Once the course has been taken and the challenge quiz has been passed the applicant will also be required to have a mentorship completed on 3 homes to show competency which helps to provide quality assurance.

Accredited Field Inspector Course - This is a 1 day course that shows how to take the data collected from the air tightness test and inspection report on a home and input that data back into the original REM/Rate file that was created for permit for Code Compliance. Entering the data of final building components and mechanicals provides a confirmed Rating using the HERS Index.

There is a challenge quiz to complete this course to demonstrate your knowledge gained from taking this course. Once the course has been taken and the challenge quiz has been passed the applicant will also be required to have a mentorship completed on 3 homes to show competency which helps to provide quality control assurance. Candidates must find a recognized mentor and extra fees will be required.

Accredited HERS Energy Rater - This designation is applied after you have completed all 3 of the above courses.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

CRESNET has a Quality Assurance Committee who is lead by the Chairman Antony Zanini.

Houses that have been provided a HERS Energy Rating are reviewed by the provider on a quarterly bases. 10% of the Rated Home paper files are reviewed and 1% of the Rated Home files undergo a field review. All of the findings are reported at CRESNET's Annual General Meeting.

To maintain the Building Code Energy Modeller (BCEM) accreditation the applicant must pay their annual CRESNET membership fee and pay the annual fee to the training provider, Project Future Proof for the REM/Rate license. The fee for the REM/Rate license includes one annual audit. Each BCEM completes a REM/Rate energy modeling file(s) on a house based on a set of requirements from the provider. Each file is reviewed and then the provider follows up with each BCEM individually to discuss accuracy of process and findings.

Processes above ensures accountibility and accuracy while offering the ability to keep CRESNET members current and up to date with process, procedures and code changes.
